With the season nearly upon us, rumours have been drifting through the valley that more of Serre Chevalier will be opening early for the 2012-2013 winter season.

There has been an abundance of snowfall in the last few weeks, Montgenèvre has enjoyed a fairy-tale start to the season having opened up in mid-November with deep fresh powder coating the slopes and adding to the anticipation.

Now the focus turns to the rest of the valley and if you are booked on the Grenoble airport transfer or the Turin ski transfer this week then we have some great news – In the last few days rumours of an early start have proven to be true with the pistes above Monetier now set to open on Decemeber 8th.

The snow cannons have already begun working on the still green lower slopes around the valley, up top conditions are excellent and the following lifts will be open this coming weekend:

  • The Cibouit: This lift will take you up to approximately 2600m and, if you stick to pistes, give you access to Pas de l’ane (blue) Cibouit (red) and Cibouit (black).
  • The Yret: This lift takes you up to almost 2830m with excellent off piste options and access to the Yret run (red) and the Col de Vent (black).
  • The Eychauda: This lift is for the beginners in your party as it takes you up to the top of a very enjoyable wide blue run.

If reports of snow throughout the week are correct then December 8th could prove to be one of the best days of the season, and there is still plenty of time to book your Turin ski transfer and join the party.
