There are an incredible 370km of hiking paths in the Serre Chevalier area, including in the beautiful and wild Ecrins National Park.

All the paths are marked clearly and are part of an even bigger network of marked hiking trails. Via Alpina is a network of 5,000km trails running all the way from the Adriatic Coast of Italy to the Med in Monaco.

GR50: Tour of the Haut Dauphiné traverses the valley from top to bottom.
GR54: Tour of the Ecrins Park. Starting from Le Casset and Le Monêtier or from the top of the Chantemerle cablecar after the Col de la Pisse.
GR5 variant c: you can join the northern variant of the famous Briançon-Nice route for walkers at the Col du Granon or in Briançon itself.

Here is a list of some of the gorgeous lakes which can be reached on hikes from the valley:
Lac de l’Oule, Lac Cristal, Grand Lac, Lac de la Douche, Lac de Combeynot and Lac du Glacier d’Arsine

There is an amazing tour that you can do of the Combeynot lake in the Ecrins National Park
Another long hike is the Chemin du Roy, which overlooks the whole valley from Le Lauzet to Le Granon

Sentier géologique du Rocher Blanc: this hike takes you on a great tour of the geology of the Briançon region, and spans its incredible 300 million year history. Tours are organised by the Centre Briançonnais de Géologie Alpine, +33 (0)4 92 20 56 55.

At Le Chenaillet at Montgenèvre you can do a high altitude scuba dive which explores an underwater fossil volcano!

For an enchanting botanical feast head to Le Bez, which is only about an hour long through beautiful flora.

Take a fascinating historical path following irrigation canals, which takes you back through the history of the Briançon region.

Look out for the chapels, sundials & oratories in Saint Chaffrey.
