Here is ATC's winter buyers guide to 6 of the best ski and snowboard goggles on the market this season.
Arnette Mercenary -
These aviator shaped goggles come with lenses in an array of hues but we found the coppery persimmon lens to be the one that offers best visibility in all round conditions. Owners of these goggles will have great peripheral vision on the slopes and the shape lends itself to those with smaller faces. Good seal and helmet compatible.
Spy Optic Platoon Special Ops -
Over sized goggles are in! And the Spy Optic Platoon sits right on trend. Not just providing a pretty face they also allow for a great field of vision and the large frame offers greater protection from the elements.
Gordini GLC-E -
Gordini goggle technology is in many ways faultless. Their Air Flow Design (AFD) ensures those wearing their goggles won't experience the annoyance of a fogged up lens or moisture build up around the rim. Their Outrigger Helmet Compatibility system is simple and provides excellent fit between helmet and goggle.
Quick interchangeable lenses make the Smith Optics I/O a great choice goggle in changeable conditions. Also as the lenses are tapered they allow more light to penetrate the eye, unlike standard, one thickness lenses. This avoids vision fatigue and strain, combine that with the rimless design and you have one of the best peripheral vision goggles on the market as well as one of the most striking looking.
Belle Gravity -
Providing performance, style and comfort the Belle Gravity is great for both men and women skiers and riders. Again a goggle that provides an expansive field of vision (can you see a theme here? Pun intended), the Gravity comes in a great range of designs and colours to suit all outfits.
Oakley Airbreak -
On the eve of last year's winter X Games, Oakley unveiled what they perceived to be the future of performance goggles. A goggle with an interchangeable lens technology that allows fast and easy lense change, perfect for those changeable weather conditions so often found on the mountain. All Airbreaks come with an extra lens when bought through the appropriate channels, meaning the apparent steep price tag could be more reasonable than you think.
The season is fast approaching and all of us here in the ATC office are looking forward to the start. Snow conditions are looking promising with Monetier Le Bain opening a week early due to the good covering of snow we have here in Serre Chevalier. We will keep you updated.
