Cost effective and convenient transfers for Stages 17 & 18 – book early to avoid disappointment!

While we’re still happily sliding down snowy mountains in Serre Chevalier, without too much of a thought for summer, it seems many other cycling enthusiasts are organising their trip to the Hautes-Alpes for the Tour de France and L’Etape du Tour.

This year will be the 104th event for this infamously gruelling bike race and the 27th “Etape” – the chance for mere mortals to ride the mountain stages of the Tour de France, under the same race conditions as the professionals.

The Tour runs from 1st to 23rd July 2017 and the route, covering all five of France’s mountain ranges, will pass through Serre Chevalier at the end of Stage 17 (starting in La Mure on the 19th July). After four challenging peaks and a superb descent from the Col du Galibier, Stage 18 then leaves Briançon on the 20th July to climb the Col de Vars and the Izoard (with an incredible 10km approach of 9% gradient!).

L’Etape du Tour takes place at Stage 18 the week before, on 16th July, “in the heart of the most majestic and enigmatic sporting setting ever” and draws as much of a crowd as the Tour itself.

Stages 17 & 18 are over 360km in total; it’s one of the most scenic and gruelling parts of the Tour de France race and the area offers many great biking routes and downhill trails for amateurs and enthusiasts too, hence why many fans wish to secure their travel plans early.

There are over 30K visitors expected in Briançon for the Etape alone between 14th and 16th July, plus 15K riders.

Luckily, The Alpine Transfer Company can offer easy, cost-effective and comfortable transport from local airports and train stations.
